从08高考看强调句式的应用 |

2008年全国英语高考试题中有如下一道试题：（保留了原题号）
20. It was in New Zealand ___ Elizabeth first met Mr. Smith.
A. that B. how C. which D. when
此题考查了“It’s…that”构成的强调句型的用法，对地点 in New Zealand进行了强调。所以正确答案为A。
it引导的强调句可以强调除谓语动词以外的大多数句子成分。无论这类句型强调什么成分，都要求用连结词 that（强调人的时候可以用who， whom）。但强调句型经常和其他句式混合使用时，增加了做题的难度。现将其考点归纳如下：
1. 强调句的一般疑问句由is /was+it +强调部分＋that +其他部分构成。
例如，① Was it in this palace that the last emperor died?
② Was it because it rained heavily that he was late for the meeting?
2．强调句型的特殊疑问句用法.该结构由“特殊疑问词+is/was+it+that/who...”构成。
例如：① When is it that you will come to my house?
② How was it that he managed to let you believe him?
3. 要辨清强调句型和其他句型的异同。该句型的判断方法是:将“It is / was...that /who...”结构去掉,剩下的部分能构成一个完整的句子便是强调句型。
例如，① —Did Jack come back early last night？
—Yes . It was not yet eight o’clock____he arrived home .

[解析]该句中不可以填that构成强调句型,只能填when引导定语从句；如填that 须在 eight o’clock之前需有介词at,即强调部分必须是完整的时间状语,所以正确答案为B。
② It was in Beihai Park ____ they made a date for the first time ____ the old couple told us their love story.
A. where；that B. that；that C. where；when D. that；when
[解析]考试试题中常将定语从句的考点与强调句型合考,从而增加试题的迷惑性。该题中“they made a date for the first time”为被强调部分“Beihai Park”的定语,所以答案选A。
③ It was how the young man had learned five foreign languages ___ attracted the audience's interest.
A. which B. that C. who D. as
[解析]强调句型强调的部分是主语从句,该题中被强调部分“how the young man had learned five foreign languages”为主语从句,所以答案选B。
④ It wasn't until nearly a month later _____ I received the manager’s reply.
A. since B. when C. as D. that
[解析]此题强调时间状语，和until连用。not until 结构用于句首时,主语和谓语通常用倒装语序。但在“It is/was not until...that...”句型中,that后的主谓常不倒装。意为“直到……才”。此句型为历年考试的重点。
再如：
① It was _____ back home after the experiment.
A. not until midnight did he go
B. B. until midnight that he didn’t go
C. not until midnight that he went
D. until mid night when he didn't go
答案为C。
② It was not until 1920______ regular radio broadcast began.
A. while B. which C. that D. since
答案为C。
这些题就是“It was...that...”和“not until...”结构合用的典型考例,掌握这个句型，此类题就会迎刃而解。
